Zea mays. Tall annual gra , probably native of S. America; widely cultivated for its important grain, un made in the 16th, and is distinguished by lustrous glaze, beautiful colors, and excellent designs. Urbino was the most important center of the art, which pa ed to Italy from the Saracens of Majorca, and is hence named.
