Edinb. univ. 1817, M.D. 1 Aug. 1820; began practice at Naples July 1821, where he was a friend of Louisa, wife of Vittorio Alfieri and widow of Charles Edward Stuart, the young pretender; physician to prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg in England 1826–9; practised in Paris chiefly as a homœopath May 1829 to Sept. 1831; practised at 19 King st.
