Marie Hippolyte [nte Ponsin], soprano, b. Paris, Mar. 2, 1846. Pupil of Mocker at Cons., 1st prizes in singing and opera 1865; d6but Op4ra Com 1865, led to engagements there and at Opdra until 1870 when she went to the war; thereafter she sang in London; married Henry Maples on; in America 1877; member Carl Rosa Co. 1883-89; Carmen favorite part; after 1890 teaching in Paris; farewell tour 1894.
