Heliostat

(hé'le-o-stat.) [Gr. helios, and sta tos, standing.] (Opt.) A reflecting mirror mounted equatorially, and driven by clockwork at such a rate that the apparent diurnal motion of the sun is neutralized. When properly adjusted, a beam of sunlight reflected from it may be kept steadily in one direction all day. [s. 447]
