DAVENPORT, FANNY LILY GIPSY

(1850-1898), an American actre ; 6. in London, England, d. at Duxbury, Ma . Her first stage appearance was made at the Howard Atheneum, Boston, then under the management of her f., E. L. Davenport, in 1857. She joined August in Daly’s Fifth Avenue Theatre Comany in 1869 and was soon playing leading parts. She afterwards toured the country as a star in Daly’s London A urance and Nancy but her most notable triumphs were plays by Sardou, especially in and La Tosca. She m. Edwin Price in 1879 whom she subsequently divorced, and married Melbourne Dowell, the leading man in her company. She produced A Soldier in France 1897 in which she acted the part of of Ayc, and the failure of the play is to have hastened her last illne . last appearance on the stage was at Gran Opera House, Chicago, March 25, 1898.
