spir -it-u-a-lizm, s. the state of being spiritual; the doctrine of the existence of spirit independently of matter; belief in communication with the unseen world of the departed through the impre ibility of certain media to so-called led spiritual influence; the doctrine that all which exists is spirit or soul.
