[Eng. mell it (e); -ic.] Of or pertaining to mellite; obtained from mellite. mellitic-acid, s. Chem.: C12H6O12=C6(COOH3). A sex a basic acid obtained from native mellite or honey stone. It crystallizes in delicate silky needles, which di olve readily in water and alcohol. It is fusible by heat, and tastes strongly acid. It forms acid and neutral salts with the alkalies and metals.
