Gordius

in Greek legend, a Phrygian peasant, father of Midas, who was raised to the Phrygian throne in accordance with an oracle which deelared to its Phrygian consulters that: their seditions would cease if they elected as king the first man they met, mounted on a chariot, going to the temple of Zeus. This was Gordius, who, to evince his gratitude, con see rated his chariot to Zeus, and fastened the pole with an ingenious knot.
