(gldr’-e) [OF., glaive, the white of egg, from clarus, clear]. Slimy; albuminous. Gland \_glans, an acorn]. I. An organ which secretes something e ential to the system or excretes waste materials the retention of which would be deleterious to the body. The word is also applied to structures which were formerly thought to secrete, as the suprarenal capsules, the pineal gland, etc., but which have no visible secretion. In structure glands may be tubular or racemose, simple or compound. 2. The bulbous end of the penis and clitoris. G., Absorbent. See G., Lymphatic.
