Moffat, Robert

African mi ionary, born at Or mist on, Hadding tons hire; the scene of his nearly lifelong labours was among the Bechuanas in South Africa, whom he raised from a savage to a civilised state; he was sent out in 1816 by the London Mi ionary Society. He married (1819) Mary Smith, a daughter of his former employer at Dunk in field.
