Edward Wellington ( eld. son of George Boate of Water ford ). Edited the Water ford Chronicle and Wexford Guardian ; a reporter for the Times in the House of Commons; went to New York; worked on the Irish American , Evening Expre , and other journals; joined the 42nd New York Volunteers 1863; taken prisoner at battle of Bristo station and sent to Belle Island; comr. and chairman of delegation of 95,000 men to negotiate with Abraham Lincoln for an exchange of prisoners; a reporter on the Sunday Mercury to Sep. 1871. d. King’s county hospital, Flat bush, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia 4 Oct. 1871 aged 49.
