ante gothic

[Lat. ante = before; Eng. Gothic.] Previous to the rise of the Gothic architecture. the style which belongs to the Roman or Ante-Gothic architecture,.."- Long fellow: Introd., Skeleton in Armour. The other part is called the consequent. In the sentence, "If thou faint in the day of adversity thy strength is small," the words "If thou faint in the day of adversity" are the antecedent, whilst those which remain, viz., "thy strength is small," are the consequent. 3.
