Fire Damp

Combustible gas frequently met in coal mines, consisting chiefly of marsh gas or light carbureted hydrogen, with varying quantities of carbonic acid, oxygen and nitrogen. A mixture of the gas with eight or nine times its volume of air is highly explosive. See MARSH GAS.
