(springz,) in Kentucky, a locality in Wayne co., on the Cumber land River, 100 m. S. of Frankfort, celebrated for a great battle fought near it, Jan. 19, 1862, bet. Gen. Crittenden's Confederate command, 10,000 strong, and 28,000 national troops under Gen. G. H. Thomas, which resulted in the defeat of the former with the lo of Gen. Zollicoffer. Pop. 1,940. [s. 602]
