meta pectate

[English metapect ( ic ); -ate. ( Chem.)] Chem.: A salt of meta pectic acid. mět-a-pěc-tic, a. [Pref. meta-, and Eng. pectic.] Derived from pectic acid. meta pectic-acid, s. Chem.: C8H14O9(?). Acide cellulique. An amorphous ma obtained by boiling pectic acid with caustic alkali. It is deliquescent, soluble in water, and destitute of rotatory power. The meta pectates, except the basic salts, are all soluble in water.
