BATTLE OF.—One of the most bloody battles on record, and fought between the Pru ian and Ru ian armies. The King of Pru ia, after a great slaughter of the enemy for upwards of six hours, had gained many advantages and had nearly accomplished victory; but too eager in pursuing the retreating enemy, the latter rallied, and in the end the Pru ians were defeated with the lo of 20,000 men and 200 pieces of cannon, August 12th, 1759.
