texts of certain date are few and doubtful till 326 a.c., when they suddenly become numerous ' and definite in Palestine. In the Roman catacombs Christians are hardly distinguishable from the worshipers of Mithra, or of Apollo, before this date. The oldest Christian building known is probably the synagogue of the Marcionites on Mt, Hermon—built in our 3rd century—and the name of Christ even here is concealed by the spelling Khréstos.—Ep.]
