Driver, Samuel Rolles

D.D. (by decree of Convocation, 1883), Church of England; b. at Southampton, Oct. 2, 1846; was scholar of New College, Oxford; Pusey and Ellerton Hebrew scholar, 1866; graduated B.A. (first-cla in cla ics), 1869; Kennicott Hebrew scholar, 1870; fellow of New College 1870-82, and tutor 1875-82; Hall and Houghton senior Septuagint prizeman, 1871 Houghton Syriac prizeman, and M.A., 1872; ordained deacon 1881, priest 1882; succeeded Dr. Pusey as regius profe or of Hebrew and as a canon of Christ Church, Oxford, 1882. In 1884 he was appointed examining chaplain to the bishop of South well. In 1875 he became a member of the Old-Testament Revision Company.
