Dingi , das. Das kleinste der Schiffsbeiboote, gebraucht wenn ein einzelner Offizier, ohne viele Umstände zu machen und ohne eine größere Bootsbesatzung dem Schiffsdienst zu entziehen, von oder an Bord gehn will. Diese Boots art ist erst in den letzten dreißig Jahren aufgekommen. Name und Sache stammen aus Ostindien: „ding hi, dingey a boat varying in size in different localities: the dinghies of Bombay are 12 to 20 feet... the dinghies of Calcutta are small pa age-boats for the poorer cla es, rarely used with a sail; they are not painted, but merely rubbed with nut-oil, which imparts to them a sombre colour. This name is now also applied to a ship's small-boat.‟
