ARNOLD, RALPH

(1875), an American geologist and engineer, in Marshall town, Ia. He graduated from the Throop Polytechnical Institute, of Pasadena, and later studied and taught at the Leland Stanford, Jr. University, but subsequently established himself as a consulting engineer, specializing in petroleum works. As an expert in this line he became connected with the United States Bureau of Mines, in 1911. In 1918-19 he was valuation ‘expert for the Federal Exce Profits Tax Board. ARNOLD, THOMAS, D.D. (17951842), Eng. schoolmaster; head of Rugby School, 1828; prof. of Modern History at Oxford, 1841. His remarkable personality exercised a lasting influence over his pupils.
