Ragueneau, Paul

(1605-1680). Born in Paris, France. Joined the Society of Jesus, and in 1636 came to Canada as a mi ionary to the Indians. For a few years worked among the Hurons, and in 1640 sent on a mi ion to the Iroquois. In 1650 appointed superior of the mi ions. In 1657 went on a mi ion to the On on dag as, and after finding that they had murdered several Hurons, barely escaped with his life. Spent the next nine years in labouring among the Hurons and other tribes, and in 1666 returned to France, where he acted as agent for the Canadian mi ions until his death.
