(ang-us-tu’rah) [Sp. Angostura, ‘“ narrows,” a town of Venezuela]. The bark of Galtpe’a cusp a'ria, a tree of South America. It is a bitter tonic and stimulant: used in dysentery and in bilious and intermittent fever. Dose of the infusion, 1-2 fl.oz. (30-6c c.c.); of the fluidextract, 10-30 min. (0.666-2 c.c.); of the powdered bark, 10-40 gr. (0.666-2.666 gm.).
