LL.D. Glasgow 1885; edited The institutes of Gaius and rules of Ulpian 1880; author of Historical introduction to the private law of Rome, Edinburgh 1886, a work of authority translated into French and Italian; his law library was purchased by subscription after his death and presented to Owen’s college, Manchester. d.
