GHENT, WILLIAM JAMES

(1866), an American Socialist writer; 6. in ‘Frankfort, Ind. After graduating from the New York high school he began work as &@ compositor in a printing shop, later becoming sub-editor of various Tabor journals. In 1906 he became secretary of the Rand School of Social Science in New York, an institution established by Socialist sympathizers r the training of young people in Socialist doctrine. His writings are erally arguments for the Socialist theories, though during the war with Germany he withdrew from the Socialist rty on account of its stand against the war. He has written Our Benevolent Feudalism, 1902; Ma and Cla , 1904, and Socialism and Succe , 1910.
