Ph.D. (Gie en, 1851), Anglican theologian; b. at Worms, Sept. 23, 1824 educated at the gymnasium at Worms, and at the universities of Wiirzburg and Gie en; studied theology subsequently at King's College, London, and was elected a ociate of the college 1855. He worked for several years in the library of the British Museum, and in the Vatican and other libraries at Rome and elsewhere. He has been since 1864 " English chaplain " of the Anglican Church at Zurich, and privat-docent in the theological faculty of the university there. He has published Deutsche Vierteljahr chrift fur deutsche und englische theoloqische Forschung und Kritik, Gotha, 1860-62, and Zurich, 1863-65, 4 vols.; Bibliotheca Samaritan a (text and annotations), Leipzig, 1884 sqq, 3d part, 1886.
