PRITCHARD

Andrew (eld. son of John Pritchard of Hackney). b. London 14 Dec. 1804; apprenticed to his cousin Cornel i us Varley, patent agent; an optician at 18 Picket st., at 312 Strand, and at 162 Fleet st. London; brought up an Independent but became a Unitarian about 1840; a microscopist, fashioned a single lens out of a diamond 1826, also fashioned single lenses of sapphire and of ruby; F.R.S. Edinb. 1873; author of A practical treatise on optical instruments 1828; The microscopic cabinet 1832; The natural history of animalcules 1834, i ued as A history of Infusoria, living and fo il 1842, 3 ed. 1861; A list of all patents for inventions in the arts, manufactures, etc. during the present century 1841. d. 87 St. Paul’s road, High bury, Middle sex 24 Nov. 1882.
