[In Dut. and Fr. amorpha; Gr. ἄμορφος ( a morphos ), adj. unshapely; à, priv., and μορφή ( morph i ) = form; alluding to the fact that the corolla has neither alæ nor carina .] Bastard Indigo. A genus of papilionaceous plants. A. fruticosa was for- merly cultivated in Carolina as an indigo plant. a-morph-o-phăl-lŭs, s . [Gr. ἄμορφος ( a morphos ) = (1) mi hapen; (2) shapele ; and φαλλός ( phallos ) = a phallus.) A genus of plants belonging to the order Araceæ, or Arads. The A. orixensis has very acid roots, and, when fresh, is applied in India, in cases of cataplasm, to excite or bring forward tu- mours. It is powerfully stimulating.
