[Gr. nephalismos = soberne , discretion; nephalizō =to purify by a libation without wine; nephalios sober, temperate, abstinent (lit. & fig.), 1 Tim. iii. 2; Tit. ii. 2; nëphoto be Sober.] The name given by Prof. James Miller of Edinburgh to total abstinence. në-phal-Ist, s. [NEPHALISM.] One who advocates or practices nephalism.
