BARKING IRONS

Instruments for removing the bark of oak and other trees which is used for tanryng. They consist of a blade or knife for cutting the bark, while yet on the trunk, acro at regular distances, and of chisels or spatulse, of different lengths and breadths, for separating the hark from the wood. [s. 144]
