Hatchway-coming

The vertical plates (in wooden ve els pieces of timber) forming the border round a hatchway; notably those fitted in a fore and aft direction. Those placed athwartships, and forming the end pieces, or thwartship-comings, are technically termed „Head ledges”. See Plates 14. 3 & 40.2.
