Shift

In a military sense, to change place or station; as, to shift camp or quarters. Shifting; Plank. — A piece of 2 4 inch plank 1 foot wide, 5 feet 7 inches long, and beveled at both ends on opposite sides. It is used principally for shifting pieces from one carriage to another.
