FIELD-CRICKET

Gryllus campestris, one of the most noisy of ail the crickets, larger, but rarer, than the house-cricket. It frequents hot, sandy districts, in which it burrows to the depth of 6 to 12 inches, and sits at the mouth of the hole watching for its prey, which consists of insects.
