Tanks

Ship’s tanks, are iron or steel receptacles consisting of two kinds. The 1’‘ Are permanent fixtures, constructed by bulkheads, girders etc., and form a part of the ve el's hull, these serve as reservoirs for the reception of water-ballast, and/or for stowing petroleum or other fluids shipped as cargo. 2nd Those constructed in rectangular or any required shape, and fitted loosely in considerable number in the ship, but removable if nece ary; serving also for the reception of petroleum or other fluids forming a ve el’s cargo in bulk, instead of in barrels. Others of le dimensions are employed as provision-, or store-tanks; used for holding fresh water „ Fresh water-tank ”, ship’s-biscuit u Bread-tank ”, machinery-oil, „ Oil-tank ”, etc.
