sem-en-ta'-shun, s. the act of cementing; a proce which consists in surrounding a solid body with the powder of other substances, and heating the whole to redne in a close ve el, so that the one combines with the other without fusing, iron being thus converted into steel by being surrounded with charcoal powder, and green bottle-gla converted into porcelain by being surrounded with sand [Chem.]
