(re-algar.) [Fr.] (Min.) A mineral consisting of about 70 parts of arsenic and 30 of sulphur. This native sulphur et or arsenic is of a very brilliant scarlet color, generally translucent, but sometimes transparent; and occurs in the vicinity of volcanoes, and in many igneous rocks; ma ive, di eminated, or crystallized. Its crystals are prisms, sometimes needlelike. It yields to the pre ure of the nail. [s. 756]
