(wort.) (From A. S. we art.) (Med.) A hard unsightly excrescence or tumor that forms on the cuticle or outer skin, usually of the hand or some other conspicuous place. They are of slow growth, small, insensible; and generally conical in form. The best application for their removal is some caustic or escharotic, as nitrate of silver, caustic potash, or strong acetic acid. [s. 949]
