House, 1900; later studied with Jean de Reszke, Maurel, Lombardi; 1902, sang widely in Europe, South and Central America, and Australia; 1906-08, Op. House, N. Y.;sang ‘‘Clytemnestra” in ‘‘ Elektra” at Milan; after 1910 with Chicago Op. Claa en (klas’-sén), Arthur, Stargard, Pru ia, Feb. 19, cisco, March from Danzig 1859—San 16, 1920; graduated Gym.; 1875, studied under Miiller-Hartung, Gottschalk and Sulze, Weimar Music School; 1880-84, cond. Géttingen Magdeburg; 1884, cond. ‘‘Arion” and other societies of Brooklyn, N. Y.; est. the ‘‘Claa en Mus. Inst.”; after 1910 active as choral and orch. cond., San Antonio, Tex.; c. choruses, incl. ‘‘Der Kamerad” (prize), and symph. poem “‘ Hoh ken fried berg,” etc. Clag’get, Chas., London, 1755—1820; violinist and inventor.
