A round iron circle, with small spikes, and squibs attached to them. It is frequently used in the attack and defense of a breach. It likewise means a fusel which is filled with gunpowder and which obtains a circular rapid motion, and throws but sparks of light in various directions. Serpentine — A serpentine attachment of an arquebus to hold the match; a piece of curved metal used to ignite the priming in the flash-pan by pre ure on the trigger; a very ancient wall-piece with a match-lock, carrying an 8 ounce leaden ball, with a charge of 4 ounces of powder.
