Gender

In Grammar, a distinction in names answering to natural distinctions of sex. In Old English, German, Latin, Greek, and Sanskrit, most names of inanimate things are masculine or feminine, the rest being neuter. In French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Hebrew, all are either masculine or feminine.
