JOSEPH, (brant.) [In. THAYENDANEGEA.] An Indian chief of the Mohawk nation, B. in Ohio, abt. 1742, held a commi ion in the British service, and fought against the American colonists in the Revolution. He went afterwards to England, where he published the Gospel of St. Mark in Mohawk. D. 1809. Brant ford, a thriving city of Canada West, C. of Brant co., on Grand River, 24 m. S.W. of Hamilton. The workshops of the Grand Trunk Railway of Canada are located here. Pop. 10,200. [s. 113]
