(pürs.) [FromGr. bursa.] A pouch or small bag for the conveyance of money about the person; hence, analogically, a treasury; as, the public purse. In Turkey, the sum of 24 piastres, equivalent to abt. $24; in Persia, a sum of 50 tomans, or abt. $121. [s. 743]
