or HIZERRO, the most south-western and smallest of _ the Canary Islands, about 18 miles long and 9 miles broad. This island, having once been supposed the most western point of the Old World, was formerly employed by ali geographers to fix their first meridian, and the longitude reckoned from it. As first meridian its conventional place is 20° w. of Paris and 17° 40’ w. of Green wich. Pop. 7,667.
