(Gr. 'a.yQ»;, a flower, and |av0«?, yelloiv.) A dwarf annual gra , found plentifully in pastures, and having sweet-scented leaves. It is thought that the fragrance of hay is owing to its presence. The flowers are in oval heads, which become dull yellow when ripe. Farmers call it the sweet vernal gra . [s. 71]
