Regent

(re'jènt.) [From L. regens, ruling. ] (Pol.) One invested with the powers of a regency; that is to say, who governs a kingdom or state during the non age, absence, or incapacity of the rightful monarch.-(Educ.) In New York State, a member of a board or body-corporate, which has power to grant acts of incorporation for colleges, and to visit and inspect all colleges, acade mies, and schools in the State.
