D.D. (Wesley an University, Middle town, Conn., 1868), Methodist;. b. at Royalton, Windsor County, Vt., Feb. 3, 1819; graduated at Wesley an University, Middle town, Conn., 1841; received into New-England Conference, Methodist-Episcopal Church, 1843 was editor Sunday-school Me enger and Sunday school Teacher, Boston, 1844-45; agent of American Sunday-School Union, 1854-56; senator from Norfolk County in Ma achusetts Legislature, 1855-56; superintendent and chaplain of State Industrial School for Girls, Lancaster, Ma ., 1856- 62; chaplain of House of Refuge, New-York City, 1863-72; and since has been editor of Zion's Herald, Boston. He is a trustee of Boston University (since 1874), of Wellesley College (since 1876), and of Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, Ma . (since 1877), and was of Wesley an University, Middle town, Conn., from 1870 to 1881. He is the author of Temptation, Boston, 1840, 2d ed.
