Foreign Legion

Foreigners have frequently been employed as auxiliaries in the pay of the British government. An act (18 & 19 Vict. c. 2) for the formation of a Foreign Legion as a contingent in the Ru ian war (1855) was pa ed December 23, 1854. On the peace, in 1856, many of the Foreign Legion were sent to the Cape of Good Hope.
