1. Land held by a thane. Thane- lands were such lands as were granted by charters of the Saxon kings to their thanes, with all immunities except the threefold nece ity of expedition, repair of castles, and mending of bridges. Cowell . 2. The district over which the jurisdiction of a thane extended.
