Assonance

in Poetry, the term used when the words of a verse have the same termination of sound, but yet are fulse rhymes. [RHYME. ] A ouan (anc. Syenc), or ESWAN, is a town in Upper Evypt on the right bank of the Nile. It contains but few traces of its ancient greatne , but the interesting islands of Philw and Elephantine are close by, as are the great quarries from which the Syenite was hewn to build the temples and palaces of Egypt. It was the starting-point of the Khartoum Expedition in 1884. ‘The great Nilo Dam or barrage completed in 1903 is built here, and is 2,]87 yards long, with 180 under sluices by which the Nile flow is regulated and the irrigation of the ae country made po ible, agriculture greatly benefiting thereby.
