Anat .: A soft, reddish and highly-vascular organ, consisting of two lateral lobes united by their lower ends by a transverse portion called the isthmus. It forms a rounded projection upon the trachea and the larynx. It is one of the vascular glands, or glands without ducts. Its function is unknown. thyroid-cartilages, s. pl.
