The metallic base of lime, discovered in 1808 by Davy. This substance has hitherto been obtained in such small quantities, that its properties have not been accurately investigated. It is probably a brilliant white metal, highly inflammable, and more than twice as heavy as water. Combined with oxygen it forms lime, which consists of 20 calcium-f-8 oxygen= 28 lime. [s. 193]
